Big Yellow Taxi

Big Yellow Taxi is a one of a kind musical experience. There is no other ensemble playing the music of Joni Mitchell with the dedication and imagination that BYT brings to every show. Created to explore Joni's amazing music from its early folk roots to her pop masterpieces to her jazz influenced compositions, Big Yellow Taxi brings Joni's music alive.

The band features the expressive and soaring voice of Teresa Lorenço. Teresa's vocals pay homage to Joni's sweet, husky, and bell-like voice delivering an emotional journey through Joni's expansive catalog.

The mission of the band is to present a show that immerses the audience in an intimate journey through many of Joni's best loved and most powerful songs: a performance beyond mere imitation, to delve into Joni’s musical intensity and genius, to leave audiences entertained, moved, and elated.

We explore Joni's amazing music

from it's early folk roots, to her pop masterpieces to her jazz influenced compositions, Big Yellow Taxi brings Joni's music alive.

Joni Mitchell famously said, ""I want the full hyphen: folk-rock-country-jazz-classical, so finally, when you get all the hyphens in, maybe they'll drop them all and get down to just some American music."

THE FANS

All three of us, HUGE Joni Mitchell fans; My wife, my daughter and I, went to see Big Yellow Taxi at Sanctuary, last night. Hopes were high, but, given the depth of Joni’s catalog and, the caliber of her bands; expectations were mixed. From the first note; they delivered the goods!!! The song selection and the delivery were off the charts!! Teresa had the flu; and, has she not mentioned it, no one would have known. From Joni’s early, folk material; through her embrace of jazz, all the way to her gorgeous, 90s work - this splendid tribute brings the energy and the poetry of Joni’s decades of brilliance to the room.

I love anticipating the details like the sonic scape on For the Roses. Or those muff drumsticks on Conversation. Or the leaning into the waltz of For Free. The trippy Car on a Hill.
But what is staying with me this time: your deeply soulful rendering of Case of you (omg while you are playing the dulcimer) like heavy feeling and a light flow at the same time.
And….This was the first time I heard you do Hejira. Those waves of baselines! Your singing is so much prettier than Joni’s on this. (Sorry, Joni). Just stunning!

Teresa's powerful rendition of Joni Mitchell's songs were enhanced by adding her unique musical spirit to each selection. Anne's harmonies and percussion were spot on. John's lead guitar versatility and talent filled every song and Riche's bass guitar assumed a new voice and expression for every composition. Keyboards were masterfully played by Robert with Joe's beat complimenting and driving forward every song with energy and skill. BTY, what a fabulous band making music with a gifted Teresa in the lead! Each member of the band a consumate musician. Can't wait till they come back to the Kate again!

What a deeply satisfying and moving performance @ New Hope Winery. The syncopation and orchestral swing was enhanced by riveting voices which brought the full impact of Joni's music straight to the heart. I want more.

Saw Big Yellow Taxi last night at the Divine Theater at Gateway City Arts in Holyoke MA and was absolutely blown away by this band. Joni fans from those who only know her Top 40 hits (and maybe Blue) to the hardcore Joni aficionados will LOVE this band. Even covered Hejira, Come In From the Cold, Cold Blue Steel. Don’t let the sweetly sappy sing-a-long of Circle Game fool you. This is a kick ass Joni Mitchell cover band. This tribute is overdue in the misogynistic, male dominated rock world.I wish I’d gotten more vids of them but I was too busy dancing in my seat and singing EVERY word along with her! Check them out!!!! Thank you for one of my most enjoyable recent concerts. You’re in good company along with Tedeschi Trucks, Bonnie Raitt and Grace Potter.

Hey you all, I loved your performance at Get Down with your Hometown. Teresa  -- Amazing job with the vocals, and the spirit! And the whole band sounds great -- Joe, of course, Rich, everyone! There are times when a cover band goes beyond, and conveys the spirit of the art in a deep way, and you folks are moving into that territory. A fine offering.

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say your show at the majestic last night was magical. My mom and I attended, and I love Joni through my late father sharing her music with me when I was a girl. You brought back so many feelings, it was a little like having Dad back for a moment. Everyone was incredible, and I know my father (who was a bass player himself) would have been very impressed. Mom and I loved it, and I'd be lying if I didn't say i might have been tearing up almost too hard to keep up with the "Circle Game" sing along. Just brilliant. Thank you for an amazing night.
